LIA and IBEW Local 1049 Host Event Featuring Long Island Power Authority CEO Carrie Meek Gallagher

Melville, NY - The Long Island Association’s Energy and Environment Committee recently partnered with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1049 (IBEW 1049) to host Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) CEO Carrie Meek Gallagher, who was appointed to the role by the LIPA Board of Trustees in June 2025.CEO Meek Gallagher brings more than two decades of leadership experience in public utilities, environmental protection, regional planning, and sustainability. Prior to her appointment, CEO Meek Gallagher most recently served as Director of the Long Island Office of the New York State Department of Public Service, where she led the Department’s regional regulatory oversight of LIPA and PSEG Long Island.
CEO Meek Gallagher discussed her priorities with more than 100 attendees in her first major regional speaking engagement.
Her presentation included an update on South Fork Wind, the nation’s first commercial scale offshore wind farm; information about a state-leading solar installation milestone with nearly 100,000 customers participating; and the new time-of-day-rate system, which the first of such plan to be implemented in New York State.
CEO Meek Gallagher also highlighted how LIPA’s transmission and distribution reliability has outperformed all other state overhead electric utilities for the last five years.

The LIA’s Energy and Environment Committee examines a variety of issues, including green jobs, power generation, efficiency, groundwater protection, agriculture, waste management, and clean air. The leadership of the Committee are all LIA Board members. The Co-Chairs are Richard Humann, P.E., President & CEO of H2M and Dawn Harmon, Director at Reworld, and the Vice Chairs are Billy Haugland II, President of the Haugland Group, and David Schieren, President & CEO of EmPower Solar.
